THE HISTORY OF MEDERSA BEN YOUSSEF
Among the most famous schools of Morocco, an architectural masterpiece dating back to the Merinid era. Ibn Yusuf School was built by Sultan Abu Al-Hasan Al-Marini in 1346. It was renovated in the Saadi era without compromising its splendor.
THE ARCHITECTURE OF MESERSA BEN YOUSSEF
It is characterized by the splendor of its decoration and the skill of its architecture, which consists of students’ rooms. In addition to a hall for prayer, a mihrab with exquisite decorations, and an ablution hall in a square basin.
The Ibn Yusef school has an original Marinid architecture dating to creative Moroccan art. Its door is covered with bronzed carvings and cedar covering all parts of the school. Also, the marble used in the floor was brought from Italy, but the carved and decorated gypsum with different colors dominates all the facades, roofs, halls, and columns, as well as the small pieces of the zellij in glazing studded corridors and stairs.
